Really?

I'm normally never political and rarely talk about when **it hits the fan in my life. But with all that I've seen going on in our world, I think it's time to throw some things out there. A couple of big ones are these really, really little things that seems to be in short supply called common sense, and common courtesy. Let's tackle one at a time shall we? Common sense: " the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and to make good decisions." In other words, discretion, good judgement, wisdom of basic things (such as the sky is blue). Really not that hard to get right? The one thing that common sense says loudest you ask, "Have common courtesy."  I.E. discretion. Common Courtesy: "politeness that people can usually be expected to show." Again rather simple right?  So you know things like burning cars, ripping up park benches, signs with "women should have the same rights as guns" (didn't think that one through did...

Draining the....Drains?

Today was a day of attacking the hurricane disaster that has become our house in the last couple of weeks with all the holidays. We've been trying to catch up only to be side blasted with sick kids, crazy work, and of course, toddler-dom. One of the main things that desperately needed cleaning...the bathroom drains. Now for those of you who have never had the immense pleasure of cleaning out bathroom drains, I shall enlighten you. And then should you ever require it, you can simply refer to this page. For starters make sure you have a touch of bleach, paper towels, an old toothbrush (trust me when I say you won't want to use it ever again), and a towel that is not pristine. First you take the towel and crawl under the sink after making sure there is no water in the sink. On the back of the piping you will find a small knob-ish like thing. Wrap the towel directly below here in case of water leakage. Next the ol' righty tighty, lefty loosey trick comes in handy. Carefully lo...

Things Only A Chef Can Say

"Do you want to try my salami?" Yeah, I actually got asked that and yes he meant actual salami you dirty minded people. (Insert giant grin) It still has to be one of my favorite quotes from working in a kitchen. As I decided what to make for dinner tonight, I noticed I still have a bunch of meatballs in the freezer so I thought I'd do something with them. Which inspired me to hunt down a recipe, which then inspired me to blog, and then inspired the title. I was going to title it "How do you meatball?" but that seemed a bit of a stretch. So, I thought in between the recipes I'll be attempting I'd post about some of my more humorous stories of commercial kitchens and waiting on tables. At least one of these will make you smile if nothing else. The story behind the salami is pretty simple. I walked into work one day and we were having a special that included pasta with a type of salami in it. My chef at the time never did things halfway when it came to foo...

New Year's Resolutions...?

You know how everyone always asks, "So, what is your New Year's Resolution?" Ugh, you hate that question too? My response this year is the same as every other...to enjoy every day as it comes. That will include drinking more coffee, drinking more water, eating healthy food, enjoying my sweets occasionally, exercising regularly, but most importantly loving on the people around me more. Even if I can't stand them....that's going to be the hard one. But let's be honest here. It's always hard to try to love on people you don't like while still being true to yourself and not letting yourself get walked on. It's a fine balance, isn't it? You know that people always say "you should be able to love on your kids always". Yeah, those people never had kids. Yes you love your kids unconditionally, and without fail, but that doesn't mean you like them all the time. For example: Right now I'm sitting here attempting to type up this post an...

New Year, New Beginnings, and New Adventures

Well it's that time of year again...or should I say it's a new year again? Hardy har har har. It's when everyone is ready for a fresh start and new adventures. That's not to say that last years unsolved problems are gone, just that maybe we can take a new perspective on them. A new year also brings a new set of problems of it's own, but hopefully not the same ones as last year. For our little family, the new year also means new adventures and new places. Sad as it is here soon it will be time to say goodbye to Hidden Forest and move to a new place across the state. While we are excited we are also very nervous too. We are moving somewhere that neither of us have ever lived, only visited and we don't know hardly anyone there. But we are looking forward to the challenges it will bring. Today's post is short unfortunately just because it's still super crazy around here. I need to finish up laundry, my exercise, cleaning the studio and the bathroom, and a h...
