Trail by Fire As They Say
You know that old saying "trial by fire"? I certainly got a taste of it this week. You remember I mentioned that I wound up director for the week? Well, it was quite the experience. This got more than a little crazy at work. The dinner I did last night went off without a hitch. Ok, that being no one noticed the difference. Let me give you the bad news, that way you will like the good news that much better. For starters, the meat for our servers was raw, the tilt skillet wouldn't light, and the two lower ovens wouldn't stay hot. On top of that, 6 pans of veggies burned, the meat suddenly over cooked itself, our cider kept blocking the pour spouts, and our carver was rushing to keep up with all the people, and couldn't quite do it. So we improvised. I set one of my kitchen staff to carving in the back, and others to firing up some fresh veggies. We put the raviolis on the stove instead of in the tilt skillet, and put the cider in containers that could handle the little bit of debris. We left some of the meat well done, and others very rare. Then we could please everyone with what kind of meat they wanted. The appetizers were a hit, and the food turned out to be great. The whole thing wound up being a fabulous success. And with 13 hours of sleep later, I got a call from my father in law, that he had received a call telling him how wonderful it was, and that I had done a great job. That had to have been one of the best parts of my day.
Gamer called me later and told me that I had a new car sitting in the driveway waiting for me! So bloggers, I pulled off a great dinner with Abba's help, and have a new car to boot! Huzzah!!! It's a Land Rover for the record....just saying. ;)
Right now, Author and Scientist are both at work, and Gamer is home making dinner for him and I. I've had enough of being in the kitchen for one week. I have to be back in on Tuesday, but I will hopefully have recovered by then. I'm so glad I only work part time. Gamer's firing up burgers on the BBQ and attempting to make fries in the oven. Hopefully they will be ok. What can I say, he tries.
Well my friends, I'm off. I have Grimm on and burgers coming my way. Good night!
