When The Days Are Long
Let's face it my friends, sometimes the days are long and we just can't seem to do anything to make them go faster. It seems like it will never end and we are just not sure if we've got it in us to finish the day. What do you do during those long, brutal, and exhausting days? Do you keep thinking please, please, please let it be over already? Can't these people get I'm grumpy, or why do I have to deal with people at all? Can I go crawl in a corner and forget that the world exists? What about the infamous "will this day ever end"?
Me? Well believe you me, I've had my fair share of long days and sometimes even longer nights. Most often it's because my little one is sick or generally cranky. Though I do definitely have my days where it's just me having a very long day. And then something interesting usually happens. I find myself asking what could I do to make the day go faster. And then I stop and think for a moment and realize, but the faster time goes, the faster my little one grows up, and the faster I will miss the little things in life that make up the everyday that are simply amazing.
Life is not in the breaths we take, but in the moments that take our breath away. It's in the glitter of a child's eyes as they watch the grass move in the wind, or the giggle when they discover they are ticklish, and in the moments when they tuck their head into your neck because they don't like the rain and wind in their face. It's in the love in your spouses eyes as they snuggle you up after a long day, or they bring you coffee in the morning. It's in the laughter of a giant family gathering when the pudding just got spilled by a little one. It's in the sunrises, and the sunsets you watch that only ever look just like that once. The grass, the wind, the leaves, and the creeks as you romp and play outside. That is life. Life is also in the moments of pain, the ones of sorrow, and hurt. The ones where you don't know which is the right direction for you to take. It's in the questions of why, or how, or what is going on. But it's also in the times of anger or rage. The times when you fight with your loved ones. Life is in the moments you make up after a fight, or argument. That is LIFE. And it's something we all do together. Not as just a single person in a giant world of no one else, but as mankind. Yes, we are not perfect but we're human. We've got to learn to forgive, and to let go.
So, if I may offer this one tiny piece of advice my friends, which is a rare thing indeed, it is this. Don't forget the past, look to the future, but most importantly, live this crazy thing we call life in the moment you are in.
