When Thunder Rolls
I was going to title this post "Wait, where'd your pants go?" but since it's quite literally a thunder storm out, I figured I'd save that for next time and post about thunder storms instead. I doubt you know this but I love a good thunder and lightening storm. They are one of my favorite things. As a kid I loved to hit the trampoline and lay out and watch the sky. Don't worry we stayed far away from the edges and right smack in the middle of the mesh. Though to be entirely honest as an adult, I'm not sure that was the safest thing either. If I wasn't on a trampoline, I was in the yard until it got to cold for me to be outside anymore. I know thunder storms scare some people and often little children, but I revel in a good strong storm and the rain it brings to bear on the ground below. A storm for me is comforting. I'm not saying a hurricane or typhoon would be fun in the least. But the stronger the thunder storm, the more I love it. I reminds me that no matter what the chaos in our lives, the storm will pass. And dancing in the rain is way more fun than being afraid of it. In light of a storm, I thought for kicks I'd describe one for those who have never had the pleasure of a Washington storm.
The first thing you see is lightening flashing across the sky. Imagine the purest white light in tiny bolts striking at the ground so fast you almost miss it. Then the thunder rolls in like a diesel engine's rumble just turning over. The rain and hail start and nearly drown out the roar of the thunder as they pound away at everything it can reach. Slowly the lightening becomes less light, and the thunder becomes fainter. The hail stops and the rain gentles as the storm slowly shifts away. It becomes the sound of pitter pattering on the roof tops and the ground below. Perfect for falling into a deep dreamless sleep. And as you drift off, even the rain begins to fade away.
Good night my bloggers, and sweet dreams of rain to you.
