When Things Don't Go Right
Well, this has most certainly been a very interesting week. What started as a should be normal week with a few exciting highlights turned into a week of none stop crazy. Sunday, for all intents and purposes, was fairly calm and relaxed minus the cake incident. Monday was much the same. Until Monday evening...when the week took a turn for the interesting. I knew that I had an early appointment with the doc on Tuesday morning and wouldn't you know it, we discovered that the car's tabs were very much expired. Like June expired. Oops. Thankfully we hadn't been pulled over for it, but still, it's not something I like. So of course I go to bed having completed some of the to do list for the week, but now knowing I was going to be adding to it. Waking up every two hours almost on the dot to go pee was exhausting.
Occasionally my phone won't ring on time for it's alarm. And by that I mean, it doesn't go off at all. Thus making me paranoid that I was going to over sleep. So every 10 to 15 minutes from 7:00 in the morning on Tuesday until my alarm actually did go off at 8:30 am, I was awake and checking the time. As we all know, I hate mornings. But mornings like that are my least favorite of all. I figured if I got up and we left early we could grab something on the way for breakfast and maybe some much needed coffee. I should have known better. We did manage to get out the door early for the appointment, but not nearly enough for breakfast. So Sam, Clay, and I then had to wait until after said appointment to get food. The appointment took much longer than we had anticipated and by the time we left, we were pretty hungry. Since Sam had been such a great girl, we decided Subway was a good option. Healthy and not to expensive as we shared most of what we got. After which we headed to get tabs for the car, and invitations at the dollar store for one of the showers. Of course it being the dollar store, the options were very limited (and by that I mean there was only one option and one I hated but bought to try at least). By the time we got home, Sam was as exhausted as I was. Unfortunately, she decided not to nap because where's the fun in that. Now cranky child plus tired mommy made for an interesting afternoon. I was able to get a nice dinner on and it was quite lovely. Though when I went to write out the invitations, none of the pens I was using would work on the type of invitation that I had purchased. Go figure. I gave up and decided to just attack it the next day after the washer and dryer came in.
Wednesday the delivery for our new washer and dryer was due to come in sometime between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm. So I set my alarm to rouse me at 8:00 am just in case they showed up that early which I highly doubted. At exactly 7:54 am, I snapped awake and just about bounced out of bed with the force of coming awake so quickly. Not wanting to wake up Sam, I shut off my alarm before it could go off. I figured I'd laze in bed for a little while and read while I waited for both Sam and the delivery guys. At 9:00 am, all hell broke loose in the form of Sam throwing up everywhere. Yup, fever, throwing up, and general total lethargic-ness. My daughter is the kind that never stops. Even in her sleep she rolls, and moves like an acrobat. She refused to move more than the inch or two it took to get comfortable in my arms for most of the day. When I finally did get the call from the delivery people ( at noon I might add) saying they were going to be here in 10 minutes, I was already exhausted. As Sam had thrown up on at least three of her blankets, I figured there probably wasn't a better day for them to show up. At least now I wouldn't have to wait to wash everything. Thankfully the actually delivery went smooth as pie, other than the slight hiccup of Sam throwing up in the middle of them being here. They were understanding about the whole thing though, so that helped. Once the washer and dryer were in, the test run in progress, and the delivery guys out the door, I was able to lay Sam down in her own bed for a good long nap. For that I was very grateful. By the time she woke up, Gamer was on his way home early bearing soft stuff for our baby's upset tummy. I had given her some plain toast with just butter hoping it wouldn't make a reappearance any time soon. When she managed to hold that and nearly half a bottle of gatorade down, I figured we might be out of the woods. Considering all she ate after that, I'm half surprised she didn't get sick again. But she held everything and promptly went back to bed for a pretty solid night's rest. I was able to get 4 loads of laundry in the wash by the time I finally was able to go to bed. Gamer had clean clothes for the next day, and a lunch packed. And all the laundry was separated as well. Not going to lie, I felt like I had accomplished a lot even with a sick little one.
Thursday rolled in with rain, and a sense of purpose. The weather had suddenly decided it's fall. And of course, I had to go run the errands that I didn't get to do on Wednesday. Which meant a mad dash to Fred Meyer and Costco 45 minutes away. And wouldn't you know it. My phone was dead. As I've spent more of my life without a cell, than with one, I really didn't care. It was however a tad inconvenient. I stopped by Gamer's work to drop off donuts, and then made the dash to Costco. Costco was like walking into Chucky Cheese on steroids with adults. Yikes! You would have thought it was black Friday or something. People everywhere going every direction and most having no clue what they were actually there for. Granted Sam and I were among that group once we discovered that the items we went for in the first place were out of stock. Then it was a matter of wandering aimlessly trying to figure out something for dinner. Nothing worked of course. Eventually we left and headed to my in-laws house so that Sam could nap and I could write out the invitations for my mother in law to address and ship out the next day. Thankfully that all went without a hitch, but the lack of sleep was finally starting to catch up to me. I was able to catch a short nap. By the time we got home, I was bushed. Thankfully, the rest of the evening went well, and I was even able to get more laundry done. Granted sleep eluded me yet again last night. Especially when I woke up around 4:30 to find Gamer checking the bank account that was supposed to have gotten money in...and didn't.
Thus Friday (today that is) rolls in with a big headache, and a fresh load of stress. Come to find out, it wasn't just our account that it happened to, but the whole crew's. It wasn't the boss, but the bank. Gotta love cyberspace. So my plans for this weekend of getting birthday presents for the parents (yes, all four parents have birthdays right around each other), tackling getting dressers for Gamer and Clay, starting on the nursery, and paying all the bills is going to have to be put off until it gets resolved sometime next week. Hopefully before the bills are due. Ahh well. C'est la vie, such is life.
What's funny is even with all the extra stress added and not knowing exactly how things are going to work out I refuse to be totally beaten down. There's an old saying "whatever will be will be." That doesn't mean we have to let life beat us down while we sit in a rocker bemoaning our fate. It means that yes, life happens, it's what you do with it that matters. While it's a well known fact I'm a survivor and a fighter, that doesn't mean there aren't days I wish I could curl in a ball and bemoan my problems while doing nothing. It just means that I've learned the only way to deal with the craziness is to push back. To take what life gives you and make the most of it. To fight to survive while learning to thrive no matter how much mud gets tossed your way. Yeah, some days it's like trying to kill a hydra. Cut off one head and two more pop up. So, quit cutting off heads, and drop a mountain on it. Sometimes life is more like plugging a sinking ship. Fix one hole and another hole blows up. So you fix that one while finishing up the other. And sometimes it's like playing whack a mole. Smash a problem and another takes it's place. The point is life doesn't quit just because we want it to. But I promise, winning the game is nothing more than being content with life as it is while striving for something better. Winning the game, plugging the holes, and dropping the mountain is simply taking it one step at a time, while enjoying the little things in life.
That all being said my bloggers, take time today to enjoy something little. Something just for you. Even as simple as 2 minutes taking in the scene of life around you. No matter how crazy that life is.
