Hanging In There

We are doing exactly that...hanging in there. While there is a good chance that our little Clay could be born before we make it to the inducing date, we are doing our best to keep him cooking for just a few more days. But if he decides to make an early appearance, well, so be it. For now, I'm just keeping my feet up, drinking lots, and of course, trying to not do much of anything. I have to say, it makes me jittery. Poor Gamer has ordered me to rest, but is trying so hard to give me things to do that don't require me to be up and around just so I don't go completely crazy. He knows I don't do well just chilling on bed rest. So, he brought me laundry to fold, books to read, had me nap since I was getting tired (lack of sleep for the past months, though I managed to get 9 straight hours of sleep last night!), and is setting up movies for me to watch. He's such a sweetie. He even ran to the little store right down the street to get me mayo for a sandwich I'd been craving. He refuses to leave the house for more than a few minutes just in case I go into labor over the weekend. Come Monday morning...well, we are just going to make it through the weekend first. He is thinking about going Christmas shopping with his mom tomorrow but making sure that his dad is with Sam and I in case I go into labor. Yes, I get a babysitter if Gamer leaves lol. I know it's all in my best interest but that doesn't mean I can't get some amusement out of the whole thing. Dad and I get along famously well anyways, so it should be a lovely afternoon. We will likely bs the day away with chatter and food. No coffee...still, but hot cocoa!
Last night I made hot cocoa with some candy canes I had left over, and then made homemade whip cream to go on top. I was only allowed to make the whip cream because we have bar stools and I could sit down while throwing the ingredients into the kitchen aid. Gamer of course got all the ingredients out of the fridge and cupboard for me...and put them away. It really was delicious though. I took a little bit of eggnog, with homemade vanilla, heavy whipping cream, and powdered sugar and whipped it until it stood up thick. Then put my cocoa in the mug with the candy canes, poured in the water and mixed well until the candy canes dissolved. Next I topped it with a healthy dose of the thick whip cream and curled up on our big fluffy chaise with a couple of soft blankets, and my computer to hunt down some more books to read. I've been doing a lot of reading...but what else can I do? I don't like to sit and watch movies all day, and I need something that I can do that is easy to put down in case I have to jump up to grab Sam while I'm stuck sitting in a chair. So, I read. Sam likes it too since it means that she can come curl up with me and "read" her books right with me. Sometimes she like me to read them to her, and sometimes she wants to do it herself. On occasion when she's really wild and I need her to settle down since I can't chase her down a ton, I'll put on a short show for her to watch while snuggled in next to me. It's the only time she gets any "TV" so to say. Even then we are very picky about what she watches and how much she watches. She doesn't get to watch her shows without snuggle time with mommy or daddy. She will try to play with whatever device we put her show on. To solve this we just have it down where she will crawl into my lap, so I don't lift her as she's heavy for me, curls under the blanket with us, and we set the device propped up on the blanket so she can see. This allows for her to watch her show, get snuggles and loves, and for me to read in peace for a short time. It's a win-win. Even if it only lasts for the 20 minutes of her show. 40 if she's been an angel all day.
Today she started to learn the lesson of saying sorry. As usual she had gotten into the recycle and pulled most of it out of the box we keep it in before going out to the big can outside. Gamer got after her and told her no. She looked sufficiently sorry, so I figured it would be a good time to teach her about saying sorry. When I said "say sorry to daddy", she looked right at him with a sad look on her face and said "sorry dadda". Then proceeded to pick up the last box that she had pulled out, handed it to him, and said thank you when he took it and put it back in the main box. Then she gave him a big hug when we said "give daddy a hug". After that she got a gummy bear for being such a good girl to say sorry, pick up her mess, and give daddy a big hug. To which she was super excited, and said thank you after getting her bear. She's growing up so fast and learning so much. Many things I don't even realize that she is learning. For example, we let her watch the show "Little Einsteins". It has classical music and art, counting, and basic things like patting your lap to the beat, and singing little songs. To "blast off" their rocket, the characters pat their laps to the beat while saying "pat, pat, pat", and then say blast off. When we were in Costco and she was sitting in the cart while her and I waited for daddy to use the restroom, I started getting her to mimic clapping, and doing silly faces. All of a sudden, she started to pat her lap and say "pat, pat, pat" in her little voice. Startled, I did it with her and she began to do it again. I couldn't believe it. I had never taught her to do that but she had picked it up all on her own. Suffice to say, she has a surprisingly good sense of beat.
All in all things are well, and we are happily enjoying the last bit of time that it's just us before the 3 become 4. Everyday we are learning something new, and watching as our little ones grow. There is likely nothing more satisfying than raising our kids to be the amazing people they are going to be. It's a lot of work, and a lot of sacrifice, but it's worth every tear shed, and every triumph we make.
I hope you are all well out there in your parts of the world, and that the sun is shining in your world even when it's raining. For while your can stand in the sun, you should always dance in the rain. Good night!
